Who
needs Access Audits?
Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995
Since October 1999 the DDA has required that all service
providers make “reasonable adjustments” to their
services to ensure that disabled customers are not
treated less favourably.
Legislation introduced in October 2004, requires Service
Providers to make adjustments to premises to overcome
any physical barriers to providing that service.
Service ProvidersCan a disabled customer enter
your building unaided and receive the same, or equal
service as your other customers?
Have you made the “reasonable adjustments” to your
services, that you are now required by law to have made
in order to provide that service?
If you answered “no” or “don’t know” to any of these
questions, consider an Access Audit of your premises
now.
Employers
1. Access Audits
Have you made the necessary adjustments to your policies
and procedures to meet your obligations under the
Disability Discrimination Act to provide equal
opportunities for disabled employees?
Do your premises reflect the policies and procedures, by
providing an accessible working environment and
accessible facilities for disabled employees?
If you answered “no” or “don’t know” to any of the
above, an Access Audit will provide reassurance or make
appropriate recommendations to help you meet your
obligations.
2. Training
Are your staff aware of their responsibilities under the
DDA when acting on your behalf: Do they have the tools
and resources required to ensure that disabled customers
get the same service as everyone else?
Are you prepared?
Contact Lincolnshire Association of People with
Disabilities now for further information.
An Access Audit now or staff training, will provide you
with the reassurance that you are making all “reasonable
adjustments” to meet your legal obligations.
How much does it cost?
Get in contact, we can discuss what you need, how long
it will take and discuss prices from there.
We build training packages to meet your needs and the
specifics of your organisation, so don’t hesitate to
contact us.
What can you expect from an Access Audit?
An assessment of your premises, highlighting complying
features and any limitations and barriers to disabled
people.
A written report incorporating recommendations and
advice on how to make the reasonable adjustments to your
premises that will help you to meet your obligations.
Recommendations may range from simple adjustments such
as rearranging physical features, incorporating items
into your regular maintenance plan through to major
structural alterations.
